Recruiters work with applicants matching skills and even personalities to facility requirements in both large city and rural areas. Positions vary from staff, charge or supervisory, administrative and teaching.

Thirteen-week contracts are the industry standard, however shorter contracts and permanent relocation assignments are not unusual.

Often, temporary or contract employees are offered full time positions first!

In addition to competitive wages and travel reimbursement, most assignments provide private housing (based on local availability).

Q: What are the requirements to become a Traveling Nurse?
A: For most, one year of recent hospital experience in your specialty is required. Verifiable good references and a valid healthcare professional license.

Q: How long are the travel assignments?
A: Most assignments with Traveling Nurses are 13 weeks. Some assignments are as short as 4 weeks and as long as 26 weeks.

Q: Where are the Traveling Nurses assignments located?
A: We work with all types of facilities in all 50 states.

Q: How do I obtain a license for my assignment?
A: When you are interviewing, that is the time to get information from the appropriate board and prepare to apply. No one can start an assignment without a license from the state they are going to work in.

Q: How long will it take to select an assignment?
A: This depends on you! You could begin your assignment in 2 weeks from the time of application submission to unpacking. Many travelers commit to assignments 4-5 months in advance. Some even have an entire year of travel locations planned.

Q: How does Traveling Nurses prepare me to travel?
A: Once you have accepted an assignment, your recruiter will confirm your start date, shift, unit and salary. You will then receive a confirmation package in the mail with all the information regarding the assignment. We will then prepare you to travel. All you will need to do is pack.

Q: Can I travel with someone?
A: Lodging is provided for a single occupancy. If you are traveling with a partner, you make the arrangements or pay the difference when allowed.

Q: Can I take any time off during my assignment?
A: The only time taken off during an assignment is regular scheduled time off. You are on an assignment to fill a desperate need. Plan your time off before or after your 13-week assignment. If an exception is considered, the time off will be discussed at the interview and built into the contract.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: Your contractual commitment is for one assignment at a time. The contract starts when you verbally accept an assignment, that is your contract. The hospital expects you, the furniture and housing is arranged and the signed contract will follow the verbal contract. When on assignment, you have the choice to consider an extension, another assignment, or some time off.
